Arya Samaj is a social and religious organization which started as a reform movement in the year 1875. The first Arya Samaj was established at Bombay (Mumbai) on April 10^th, 1875. Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati was the founder of Arya Samaj who gave the call “Back to the Vedas”. Arya Samaj considers Vedas as the source of religion and its followers pray to God in the manner commended by the Vedas. It opposes superstition and considers birth based caste system a social evil. Arya Samaj has contributed significantly in the field of education. There are thousands of DAV (Dayanand Anglo- Vaidik) Schools and Colleges across the country inspired by the teachings of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati. Arya Samaj Temples are spread across the globe in approximately 35 countries. There are thousands of Arya Samaj Temples and lakhs of followers of Arya Samaj in Bharat. The apex body of Arya Samaj is called the Sarvadeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha having its head office at Delhi. Followers of Arya Samaj include great patriots like “Punjab Kesari” Lala Lajpat Rai who authored the book “The Arya Samaj”.
